Ron Barassi’s exceptional skill, experience and knowledge of the game of football
has been evident throughout his extensive coaching career. Spanning a total of 515
games, Barassi’s successful coaching career is nothing short of remarkable. With
an extraordinary ability to inspire, motivate and get the very best out of his teams
and players, it’s no surprise Barassi is as successful as he is.
Barassi guided Carlton, as coach, from 1965 to 1971. All-in-all, a total of 147
games were played under Barassi’s reign as Carlton Coach. He also went on to coach
North Melbourne from 1973 to 1980 (a grand total 198 games) and Melbourne from 1981
to 1985 (total of 110 games). In 1993, Barassi accepted the coaching position with
Sydney (1993 to 1995). During his coaching time with Sydney, a total of 59 games
were played.
With four coaching premierships under his belt – Carlton (1968 and 1970) and North
Melbourne (1975 and 1977) – Barassi is certainly no stranger to success. One of
the greatest highlights, under Barassi’s leadership, was Carlton’s premiership achievement
– the first for 21 years.
